Tenebrae (1982)

"An American novelist visiting Rome to promote his latest book is stalked and harassed by an obsessed fan who is committing a string of murders that appear to be tributes to his work."

Directed by Dario Argento, Tenebrae(Tenebre) is an Italian horror within the giallo sub-genre. Loved the base storyline, couldn't figure out the killer, loved the author character doing what he did to keep the story going. Gorgeous practical effects. Truly just a solid whodunit slasher.

The Burning (1981)

"Abusive former summer camp caretaker Cropsy, horribly burned from a prank gone wrong five years earlier, lurks around upstate NY summer Camp Stonewater with garden shears and bent on killing the teenagers responsible for his disfigurement."

Film started like one would expect from this era of slasher/horror, with tits to keep everyone watching. The movie REALLY gets into the killings though. Absolutely loved how theatrical some of the kills were, & it really shows how physically strong the killer is. The canoe scene was sick as, a certain character's death was so brutal, the practical effects were amazing. Killer face reveal was goofy as fuck, but overall fucking great movie.

The Stuff (1985)

"A delicious, mysterious goo that oozes from the earth is marketed as the newest dessert sensation, but the tasty treat rots more than teeth when zombie-like snackers who only want to consume more of the strange substance at any cost begin infesting the world."

Honestly found this movie quite boring. Only watched it once & I get what it's trying to do but it just took the most mundane route to do so.

Black Christmas (1974)

"During their Christmas break, a group of sorority girls are stalked by a stranger."

Some stupid fuckin moves made in this movie, like why not check where the missing girl lives in case she's there? That'd save like 5 lives. The stalking shots however were great, big fan of the setting too. The soft christmas lights really set the tone & then made it unsettling.

Deep Red (1975)

"A jazz pianist and a wisecracking journalist are pulled into a complex web of mystery after the former witnesses the brutal murder of a psychic."

Another absolutely visually gorgeous & captivating story from Dario Argento. He's quite quickly becoming one of my favourite filmmakers. Watched this in Italian with subtitles, the music was elegant, & once again I couldn't figure out who the killer was. The shot with the weird ass doll animatronic thing was fuckin great.
